Ms. Marisol Maddox is a Senior Arctic Fellow at the Institute of Arctic Studies in the Dickey Center at Dartmouth College. Her transdisciplinary research considers the Arctic interplay of security, geopolitics, environmental change, and democracy. She is particularly interested in how actorless threat-- such as the surpassing of planetary boundaries-- intersect with the traditional threat environment.
Maddox serves as a Senior Associate (non-resident) in the Europe, Russia, and Eurasia Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). She is a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Maddox previously served as an Arctic specialist at the Polar Institute of the non-partisan Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, DC from 2018- 2025. She regularly teaches about the Arctic around the world. Her insights and commentary have been featured in the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Bloomberg, Business Insider, BBC, and Science, among other outlets.
