Private investment for climate action in fragile and conflict-affected settings

When: 23 October 2025 | 14:40-15:50

Format: Breakout session

Fragile and conflict-affected settings (FCAS) are among the most vulnerable to climate change, and this acts as a risk multiplier by exacerbating existing tensions and vulnerabilities. Yet, these contexts receive the least finance for climate solutions. This session, led by International Alert, CrossBoundary Advisory, and PeaceNexus Foundation, will explore how to unlock private finance for green energy, agriculture, and nature-based solutions in FCAS.

Drawing on practical experiences from Africa, we will discuss what has worked to attract private investment in FCAS through the growing peace investment ecosystem. We’ll discuss the role of the private sector in financing and delivering climate solutions, demystify the challenges investors and companies face, and the potential solutions to unlock capital. Looking ahead, we’ll also share plans to fill a gap in the current landscape through an investment facilitation platform for NbS and green energy in FCAS in Africa.

The session will also spotlight co-benefits: building resilience to climate shocks, reducing emissions, creating clean jobs, easing resource tensions, stabilising economies, generating tax revenues for services, strengthening trust in government, and delivering strong returns for investors. By bridging finance, peacebuilding, and climate, the session aims to galvanise cross-disciplinary collaboration.
