Maurício Angelo is the founder and Executive Director of Mining Observatory, a Brazilian-based investigative journalism Centre and think tank established in 2015. Angelo is a PhD Student in Environmental Science at University of São Paulo (USP). Hold a Master's Degree in Sustainable Development at the University of Brasília (UnB).
With more than 20 years of experience, as an award-winning international investigative journalist, researcher, speaker, professor and consultant, Angelo has published in many media outlets around the world and was the winner of the Excellence in Journalism Award (2019) by Inter American Press Association. Angelo also used to speak at several events about critical minerals and energy transition, the main area of expertise.
The Mining Observatory has played an important role in uncovering key stories with relevant impact, many of which have been published in several international media outlets in Portuguese, English, German, French and Spanish.
