"Financing the Green Transition: Policy Instruments, Energy Security and Geopolitical Dimensions. Perspectives from Nigeria, Indonesia and India"
When: Wednesday, 7 October, 2026 | 14:30 – 16:00
Where: German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP), Rauchstraße 17, 10787 Berlin
Format: Round table discussion and reception
The transition toward climate neutrality and climate-resilient development requires substantial financial resources. Emerging economies face the challenge of financing this transition while addressing development needs, economic competitiveness and rising costs from climate-related damages. At the same time, the energy transition has become an issue that extends well beyond environmental and technical considerations. It increasingly includes questions of resilience, security and geopolitical positioning.
Nigeria, Indonesia and India illustrate different approaches to managing these challenges. While their energy systems, development models and policy instruments differ, all three countries must reconcile development priorities with the increasingly internationalized pressures and opportunities that arise from the global green transition. This roundtable considers how policy instruments such as carbon pricing, energy price reform, and climate finance not only shape the distribution of transition costs and benefits but also affect international dependencies and influence economic and energy security.
