Utchang Kang is currently working at the Secretariat of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). He primarily focuses on the nexus between land, peace and security serving as programme manager of the Peace Forest Initiative. The Peace Forest Initiative (PFI) aims to promote building confidence and peace through cross-border collaboration on land related resource management in fragile and conflict affected locations. Launched in 2019, the PFI has been operating globally in 17 locations involving 44 countries and rolling out initial activities in the South Caucasus, Central Asia, the Horn of Africa, Southeast Asia (ASEAN + Timor-Leste) and the the island of Ireland. He has been also working on sand and dust storms issues, developing global policies and technical tools, given its transboundary nature of the phenomena.
