Climate security and disinformation

When: 23 October 2025 | 14:40 - 15:00

Format: Conversation

Venue: Plenary (Weltsaal)

Hosted by: European Centre of Excellence for Civilian Crisis Management (CoE)

Climate disinformation is shaping public discourse, influencing policy decisions, and complicating efforts to address the climate-security nexus. In an era dominated by algorithm-driven content, misleading information can spread rapidly - distorting facts, eroding trust, and undermining effective action.

This session will debunk some myths and shed some new lights on how to act on climate disinformation to strengthen our collective response.

Speakers:

  • Jonah Thompson, EU Policy Manager, Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) and member of Climate Action Against Disinformation (CAAD)
  • Dr Kira Vinke, Head of the Center for Climate and Foreign Policy, German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP)
