Aarti Gupta is Professor of Global Environmental Governance at Wageningen University, The Netherlands. Her research focuses on accountability, transparency and equity in global environmental and climate governance, and the challenges of anticipatory governance of novel technologies, including solar geoengineering. Among other publications, she is co-editor of Transparency in Global Environmental Governance: Critical perspectives (MIT Press). She is co-initiator and co-leads an academic initiative bringing together more than 600 scientists in calling for an International Non-Use Agreement on Solar Geoengineering, for which she received the 2026 Engaged Scholar Award from the Environmental Studies Section of the International Studies Association. Gupta has been a member of the Scientific Steering Committee of the Earth System Governance research network and was its co-chair from 2022-2023. She holds a PhD from Yale University. She has also worked for the United Nations Development Programme in New York, Oxfam-Novib in The Hague, and Transparency International in Berlin.
