Mr. Hans Olav Ibrekk is Special Envoy for Climate and Security at Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He led Norway’s climate-security work at the UN Security Council (2021–22), serves on the Green Climate Fund Board (since 2017), and chaired the Adaptation Fund Board in 2013 and 2015. He also chaired the NDF Board and co-facilitates the SDG7 Technical Advisory Group. He is the ministry’s focal point for climate-security, energy geopolitics, IRENA, renewables, and water/sanitation. With 40+ years in government, international organizations, and development, he previously worked at the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad), the World Bank, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). He holds master’s degrees in Environmental Engineering (University of Washington) and Civil Engineering (Norwegian Institute of Technology).
