Spotlight on Climate for Peace: The way to COP and beyond
When: 11 October 13:35-13:55

There are significant gaps across the climate, peacebuilding, humanitarian and development frameworks. In order to more systematically advance integrated responses that yield synergies across climate adaptation, disaster risk reduction, peacebuilding and sustainable development, we are seeing timely and pertinent new multilateral initiatives. Under its COP27 Presidency, Egypt has tasked the think tank CCCPA to develop an important climate security initiative titled “Climate Responses for Sustaining Peace” (CRSP). And Germany, with adelphi, is launching the Climate for Peace initiative at this BCSC. This session serves to highlight these important initiatives and discuss how synergies can be harnessed and partnerships catalysed to to achieve their common goal of sustaining peace in the face of climate change.
Speakers:
- Ambassador Ahmed Abdel-Latif, Director-General, Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA)
- Ambassador Hinrich Thölken, Special Advisor for International Climate and Energy Policy, German Federal Foreign Office (tbc)
Moderated by Janani Vivekananda, Head of Programme Climate Diplomacy and Security, adelphi
