Amb. Hinrich Thölken is Special Advisor for International Climate and Energy Policy in the German Federal Foreign Office. He joined the Foreign Service in 1989. His foreign postings include Namibia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the United States of America and France. In 2015 he was appointed Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Federal Republic of Germany to the UN Organizations in Rome. In 2018 he took over the position of special envoy for international digitalization policy and digital transformation in the German Federal Foreign Office as Germany‘s first Digital Ambassador. In 2020 he was appointed Director for International Climate and Energy Policy and Digital Transformation. In 2022 he was nominated Special Advisor for International Climate and Energy Policy.
