Integrated programming does not just add value. It creates capabilities and outcomes that siloed approaches cannot achieve. This workshop draws on four years of evidence from on-the-ground implementation of the Weathering Risk Peace Pillar (WRPP) and will explore what integrated programming looks like in practice, and how practitioners can build it into their own work.

The WRPP has tested integrated climate, environment, peace and security programming across five of the world’s most fragile contexts: Nigeria, Somalia, Iraq, Yemen and the Bay of Bengal. The evidence is clear: integration produces mutually reinforcing gains across peace, resource management, livelihoods, environmental sustainability and institutional resilience – gains that siloed approaches cannot achieve. A single investment in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, for example, contributed simultaneously to a reduction in farmer–herder violence, the adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices and the reopening of local markets. Similarly, a sustained dialogue process in Somalia, grounded in environmental peacebuilding, enabled two communities affected by prolonged violent conflict to rebuild trust and cooperation, reach agreements over contested grazing land, reopen a shared weekly market, and reduce retaliatory violence and deforestation.

This workshop is designed for practitioners and policymakers already working on related climate, peace and governance challenges outside WRPP. It will use the evidence generated by WRPP as a starting point and invites participants to test and apply the ideas against their own professional experience. The workshop moves through three connected parts (1) analysis, (2) project development and (3) implementation.
