As the European Union takes on a more leading role in European defence readiness, it will also have to step up in ensuring climate resilience of European Armed Forces. The Joint Communication (2023) and its subsequent Progress Report (2025) highlight the increasing impacts of climate change and environmental degradation on armed forces. Europe must proactively secure its own progress to ensure military readiness, capitalizing on existing EU frameworks and recent advancements. Close coordination with NATO is essential to ensure that synergies on all levels.
