The roundtable will explore the potential to leverage the security sector for people, planet and peace, drawing on concrete examples from DCAF's recent field work in Colombia, Brazil, Sierra Leone and the occupied Palestinian Territories which has analysed the role of security institutions- in areas including disaster risk reduction and addressing environmental crime. Local partners, practitioners and policy makers will share new insights in a cross-regional exchange of emerging good practices and common challenges, highlighting the critical but underexplored role security sector actors play at the heart of the triple nexus. Participants will discuss the implications of recent findings for future security sector policies, priorities and programmes across a range of contexts -from bilateral and multilateral SSR initiatives to UN and CSDP missions. Ideas from the roundtable will be captured in a short outcome paper which identifies new opportunities to maximize security sector contributions to environmental and human security.

Moderated by Abigail Robinson, Programme Management Advisor, DCAF and Viola Csordas, SSR Advisor, DCAF
