Climate – Conflict – Clash of Crises: Weathering the Risks
When: 11 October 2022 | 10:00-10:45
Format: Opening discussion
Venue: Plenary session
With COP27 just around the corner, cost of living and inflation soaring and the impacts of climate change taking a greater human toll than ever before, this panel will discuss using inclusive and equitable climate action as a through line to drive transformation in addressing interconnected global crisis urgently, coherently and within limited resources.
Neither climate action nor our efforts to sustain peace can preclude addressing climate impacts on peace and stability and its interlinkages with current geopolitical challenges. This panel will lay the foundations to approach those conversations through the ensuing two days of the BCSC. This interactive discussion will open BCSC 2022 by setting out some shared common principles for coordinated action to better address cascading risks posed by climate change to peace, and asking which concrete steps can be taken to address these complex challenges.
