Climate, Environment, Peace and Security Initiative

The Climate for Peace webpage is now live. You can find the most up to date and relevant information about the initiative, the agenda for action, members and projects here.

The multilateral Climate, Environment Peace and Security Initiative (Climate for Peace) was established during the opening ceremony of BCSC 2022. 

Goals: to promote, coordinate and advance concrete projects on the ground to address the gap between strong political rhetoric and action, further the progress generated by current joint initiatives and ensure climate security is a local and national priority 

Members: Established by Germany during its G7 presidency, in May 2022 the G7 Foreign Ministers (Canada, EU, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, United Kingdom, United States) committed to the initiative. Additional countries that have joined the initiative include: Australia, Belgium, Czech Republic, Finland, Gabon, Guinea Bissau, Indonesia, Ireland, Kyrgyzstan, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Niger, Norway, Somalia, Spain and Switzerland.

When: The launch of the Climate, Environment Peace and Security Declaration and Initiative took place on 11 October 10:45-12:00 in-person during BCSC 2022 and over livestream

Future topics: integration of climate data in conflict analyses, early warning systems, risk and foresight assessments, disaster risk reduction, adaptation, risk insurance and finance
